Frenuloplasty

In frenuloplasty, a frenulum (the band of skin under the glans) that is too short (frenulum breve) is surgically lengthened. The foreskin is preserved.

When is it advisable?

A short frenulum can pull, hurt or tear when the foreskin is retracted or during an erection. Frenuloplasty can then be an alternative to circumcision.

Procedure

This is a minor procedure, usually under local anaesthetic. The frenulum is cut and then sutured crosswise so that it becomes longer.

Risks

Secondary bleeding, wound infections or scarring may occur. We discuss the risks and what to do after the procedure with you beforehand.
