In a circumcision, the foreskin of the penis is surgically removed. We perform the procedure for medical reasons and advise you beforehand in a personal consultation.
When is circumcision advisable?
Common reasons are a tight foreskin (phimosis) that cannot be pulled back over the glans, or recurrent inflammation of the glans and foreskin. If the foreskin shows suspicious changes, removal may also be necessary for diagnosis; more on this under Penile cancer.
Procedure
In an initial consultation we examine you, discuss your symptoms and the possible treatment options, and explain how the procedure works and what the risks are. We decide together with you which type of anaesthesia is suitable.
Risks
As with any surgical procedure, post-operative bleeding, wound infections or wound-healing problems can occur. We inform you in detail about these and other risks, and about what to do after the procedure, before the operation.
